Air cargo community systems are a novelty that’s making cargo logistics much more efficient than in the past.  In November 2019, I was privileged to share the air cargo spotlight with a team of logistics collaborators. They had the foresight to launch the first airport Air Cargo Community System in the Americas.

These companies realized early that digitization of cargo is the way to reduce costs. Consequently, they can cut their costs, improve transparency, and add value to their clients with complete track and trace capability. Air cargo community systems drive efficiency gains.

Air cargo technologies

The system is supported by modern technology such as artificial intelligence (AI).  As a result, the AI analyses data it collects on the behavior of the air cargo community.  It is capable of recommending strategic improvements for stakeholders.  These could include taking different time slots for a truck to pick up cargo at a busy airport because of less traffic at a particular time of day.

As a result, it could also include sending a larger truck to collect multiple cargo stops rather than several smaller trucks.  Air cargo community systems drive efficiency gains, save money through reduced fuel costs, and contribute to protecting the environment.

Technology can help fight COVID-19

During the era of COVID-19, we realize something even more interesting. We noticed that with documents now digitized, we could reduce infection rates of our valued staff and colleagues in the logistics sector since they do not have to pass around paper documents such as airway bills and manifests, and delivery orders.

In addition, they can book truck slots digitally, and check on cargo without needing to be in close proximity to their colleagues.  Shipping agents are starting today to take advantage of Airport Air Cargo Community Systems (ACS).  Subsequently, they know that the virus moves with their hosts and as such to take reduce the possibility of contagion, they must also reduce the chances of contact.

Listen to me, my esteem colleague and one of our expert collaborators educate the public on the new system on this podcast.

“The private sector sees that this [ACCS] is cutting their costs and improving their efficiency. They can utilize their resources a lot better. People are clamoring to sign on. Cargo agents want full visibility of cargo. Visibility can be obtained once everyone in the supply chain is signed on to this system.”Elliott Paige

I would love to hear from you. Therefore, let me know what other airports or seaports are doing to modernize their cargo facilities. This technology is applicable to all logistics. Air cargo logistics have been vital in fighting pandemics like the coronavirus.

How are cargo stakeholders implementing cargo community systems? How are they using digital cargo, air cargo community systems, talking about the Atlanta cargo community system and technology to keep cargo flows going? Tell me what your airport is doing to improve air cargo efficiency in the comment section below.
