A friend of mine visited me in Lisbon, her 100th country. She is a million-mile traveler. After dinner, I walked her to her Airbnb and headed home, only to get a frantic call from saying she found a bedbug in her room. We spent the rest of the night calling hotels to find alternative accommodations, and it did not help that her phone had a glitch. Her episode was during October 2023, when Paris reported a crisis, and Olympic-goers started to worry about going there for the games in 2024.
