Sustainable Tourism: How to Travel Without Harming the Places You Love

Last year, I saw in the news local people in Barcelona, Spain, were protesting the influx of tourists that overrun the city during the peak season. There were videos of Spanish people spraying tourists with water to get them to leave, and that went viral. Many governments believe that tourism will bring in the mighty dollar and create employment. However, there is such a thing as over-tourism, which harms locals and makes the tourist destination terrible for some visitors. Governments need to focus on sustainable tourism, one that does not harm the place or its people.
